Ashburton Waste Water Upgrade

Location: Mid-Canterbury
Duration: 6 Months, 2008
Client: Ashburton District Council
Value: $6.3 million
Delivered on Time and Budget?:  Yes

A state of the art system incorporating a new aeration pond, a 12km pipeline, a 7ha wetland and a 265ha land disposal irrigation system.

With an overall budget of $17m this was the council's largest capital works project ever undertaken. The project required construction of wetlands and installation of 70km of pipelines and spray heads to dispose of the treated effluent. 10ha of farmland was re-contoured and the surface was stabilised to provide an impervious membrane for the wetlands. This was followed by installation of an intensive, fully automated irrigation system for the spraying of the effluent. Waste water was distributed via 4 x 75kW pumps.
